The Inspiring Connection Between Age Well Yoga and the Flow of Water
The Age Well Yoga Programme for winter2024 , with its focus on movement, breath, stillness and connectedness will reflect and mirror the sense of flow associated with water.
Fluid Movement: We will develop yoga sequences that will encourage fluid and continuous movements, emulating the rhythmic flow of water. Through noticing our movements, we will shine a light on our unhelpful movement habits and learn to move in ways that brings ease and comfort.
Breath and Flow: Synchronizing breath with movement in our yoga sequences cultivates a sense of flow. The steady, rhythmic breath creates a flow-like experience, connecting each movement seamlessly. Even when we do our yin postures there is movement in stillness when we notice the movement of our breath. When holding our breath we notice resistance, when we are aware then we are able to adapt and change.
Adaptability: Age well yoga encourages adaptation to different movement and poses based on the individual's experience, promoting flexibility and adaptability that is unique to the individual. If you find a movement feels stuck, then there will be another pathway , through which we can encourage flow.
Cultivating Resilience: When we move with ease we can feel that strength of connectedness. When we do our strength work or a challenging posture, we may find it more of a challenge to stay connected. The perseverance and resilience required to hold challenging poses or endure longer sequences in yoga reflect the strength and perseverance inherent in the flow of water.
By incorporating these elements into our yoga practices, we will experience and cultivate the fluidity, adaptability, and resilience associated with the flow of water, fostering a deeper sense of connection between body, mind, and the natural flow of life.
Key to our movements this term will be the bladder and kidney meridians, which are associated with the water element. Initially we will just need to become familiar with their pathways, their start and end points. So take a look below at their pathways.
